South Africa's President Mandela appears to be trying to lower the heat in his name-calling row with F-W de Klerk. At the weekend Mandela called the deputy president a joke for insisting on amnesty for former top officials accused of committing murders under apartheid. But Mandela now insists he has no particular bias against de Klerk.
